WorldCon 2021 For the Holidays
It was announced earlier this month that the 2021 Worldcon, annual convention of the World Science Fiction Society scheduled for this August, has been postponed until December 15-19 in Washington DC.
Tagged as DisCon III this year, the convention proceedings will move from the Marriott Wardman Park Hotel in the Woodley Park neighborhood just a couple of blocks down to the Omni Shoreham, a grand dame of a hotel overlooking Rock Creek Park and with plenty of convention space. I’ve attended meetings at the Omni Shoreham before, and I came away impressed. The main ballroom is reputed to be one of the largest in the DC area.
An announcement by DisCon III organizers relating to the date and venue changes with answers to a laundry list of questions about the move can be found HERE. The main convention website is at this LINK.
Balticon 55 Online
For those of you itching to commune with your fellow science fiction and fantasy brethren now, Balticon 55 will be held Memorial Day weekend, May 28-31. Sponsored by the Baltimore Science Fiction Society (just up the road from Washington, DC), Balticon 55 will be held as a free online event in light of the current limitations on public gatherings.
Currently announced guests include Seanan McGuire, Alyssa Winans, Margaret & Kristoph, C.J. Cherryh, Micaiah Johnson, R.F. Kuang, and Arkady Martine.
