As you may know, I posted a survey almost a month ago asking the question, “Where do you write?” I promised to post the results after a few weeks. Here they are. Thanks to everyone who responded!

First, I want to say that my blog is still pretty new, so traffic is running a tad slow. LOL Therefore, I reserve the right to revisit this topic in a few months. In the meantime, here’s what you’ve told me from the 37 votes cast thus far.

Place You WriteVotesPercent
At a desk?1027%
At a table in your home?822%
On a couch/a comfy chair?719%
In an outdoor space at your home?38%
On the bed?38%
Elsewhere in your house?00%
At a coffee or tea shop/restaurant?25%
At the library?13%
On public transportation?38%
At the park?00%
Somewhere else?00%

Probably not a surprise to anyone that a desk is the most common spot for writers to do their work. At the same time, those who responded are almost as fond of writing at a table in the home or in a comfy seat (couch or chair).

I allowed respondents to choose all places that apply because I personally find myself working from three spots: my desk, the dining room table, and on public transportation.

The desk is my main location, but I use the dining room table from time to time as a change of venue. Sometimes, just moving to a different surrounding can help me get through a tough spot. In addition, I frequently find myself on public transportation. If an idea hits me while I’m commuting to or from somewhere, I use my phone to record it – a scene, dialogue, or whatever.

How about you? Are the results what you expected? If you haven’t already, please take a quick moment to click over to the survey and fill it out.

    A desk.

  2. I am surprised at the significant response about writing on a bed. The bed is so cozy, and the pillow is so squishy . . . I think I’d fall asleep!

I know! But I can and do read in bed without sleeping. Whatever works, I guess.
