Hey there! We’re almost midway into this year, and my word count remains unfortunately low in the realm of fiction.
I have to admit this blog has taken some of the time I would otherwise have spent on my novel. In addition, I’m in the midst of editing rather than drafting. While that does entail some rewrites, it’s more about analysis than writing anew. Up to this point, anyway. That could easily change, of course. I know. Still, the lack of word count to date weighs on my mind.
As we near July and another opportunity to participate in one of the hugely popular NaNoWriMo events, I’m trying to decide if I should set FFB aside for the month and just do some straightforward writing on another project. Last year, I participated in the summer camp and came away with over 30k additional words for my story. That felt good!
I could, of course, try going the NaNoWriMo Rebel route this July and redouble my efforts at pushing through edits on FFB. I don’t know how that would work, though. How do you report editing progress in a system that’s designed to encourage and track writing? Half the fun is watching your own word count rise and encouraging others as everyone reaches for their goals. You get badges for attaining certain word levels. There aren’t any editing badges. And, anyway, what would they be? Maybe we need a NaNoEditMo. LOL
I don’t know. I have a few days to think it over and decide.
What are your thoughts? Have you done Camp NaNoWriMo in edit mode? If so, how did that work?
